About the House of Representatives
Nigeria operates a three-tier system of government: The Federal, State, and Local Governments, each with its own legislative arm.
At the federal level, Nigeria practices a bicameral legislature known as the National Assembly, which is divided into two chambers: the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The National Assembly serves as the nation’s apex law-making body.
The House of Representatives chambers is often referred to as ‘The Green Chamber‘, Nigeria is currently in the 10th Assembly.
Functions of Representatives
The House of Representatives, together with the Senate, is responsible for creating laws that support peace, good governance, and national development.
Membership
The House of Representatives is made up of 360 members. Each member represents a part of the country, known as a federal constituency. Members serve a fixed term of four years, and they may be re-elected.
Representative Leadership
Members elect a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker from among themselves to lead the House. Supported by the Clerk & Deputy Clerk of the House, as well as other Principal Officers, from both the Majority and Minority groups.

Meet the Leaders of the Tenth Assembly
The leadership of the House of Representatives plays a key role in guiding the activities of the House and ensuring that its duties are carried out effectively.

Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen - Speaker House of Representatives
Tajudeen Abbas was born on October 1, 1965, in Zaria, Kaduna State. He holds a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree in business administration.
Before entering politics, he worked as a primary school teacher and later as a lecturer at Kaduna State Polytechnic. Abbas was elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, representing Zaria Federal Constituency.
He sponsored a record 74 bills between 2019 and 2023, with 21 signed into law. He was elected Speaker of the 10th Assembly with 353 votes.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu - Deputy Speaker of the House
Benjamin Kalu, born on May 5, 1971, in Abia State, is a lawyer and politician. He holds degrees in law, business administration, and international humanitarian law.
Kalu began his political career in 2002 and later became the Local Government Chairman for Bende. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019, representing Bende Federal Constituency. He was re-elected in 2023 and currently serves as Deputy Speaker.
Kalu is also the Chairman of the Constitution Review and Amendment Committee.

Julius Ihonvbere is a Nigerian academic, activist, and politician born on June 25, 1956. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and has served as a professor, governance expert, and adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Currently, he is a member of the House of Representatives, representing Owan Federal Constituency of Edo State.

Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali, also known as Halims, is a Nigerian politician born on August 16, 1964, in Kogi State. He represents the Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, a position he first assumed in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC)
A graduate with a B.Sc. in Political Science, Hon. Ali has served as Chairman of the House Committee on Steel and was appointed Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th National Assembly in July 2023. He is known for his legislative focus on infrastructure, youth empowerment, and revitalizing Nigeria’s steel industry.

Usman Bello Kumo is a Nigerian politician and lawyer, representing Akko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and serves as the Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly. Kumo holds a law degree from Bayero University, Kano, where he was also President of the Student Union Government in the 1997/1998 academic session.
He has previously served as Chairman of Akko Local Government Area and was Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs. Kumo was the only APC candidate re-elected in Gombe State during the 2023 general elections.

Kingsley Ogundu Chinda is a Nigerian politician and lawyer, born on March 24, 1966. He represents Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chinda previously served as Commissioner for Environment in Rivers State and has been actively involved in legislative affairs.

Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki, born January 15, 1967, in Dala, Kano State, is a seasoned Nigerian lawmaker representing the Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
A graduate of Kano State Polytechnic, where he earned his OND and served as President of the Student Union Government, Madaki has had a longstanding political career. He is a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and was re-elected in 2023, marking his third term in the National Assembly.
Known for grassroots engagement, he has also served on key legislative committees.

Ali Isa is a Nigerian politician and administrator, born on June 4, 1974, in Chamasco, Billiri Local Government Area, Gombe State. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Abuja.
Isa served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected in the 2023 general elections.

George Ibezimako Ozodinobi, born March 3, 1957, in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, is a Nigerian politician and financial expert. He currently serves as the Deputy House Minority Whip in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Njikoka/Dunukofia/Anaocha Federal Constituency under the Labour Party (LP)
He holds a B.Sc. in Finance from the Anambra State University of Science and Technology, Awka, and was previously self-employed before venturing into politics. Ozodinobi was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2003 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and returned to the chamber in 2023 after joining the Labour Party.
Known for his advocacy for financial accountability and grassroots representation, he is regarded as a bold voice for the voiceless and a consistent critic of elitist policies.
