The National Assembly of Nigeria has officially announced the reconvening of both the Senate and the House of Representatives for a special plenary session on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
The announcement, issued Sunday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Kamoru Ogunlana, directs all Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members to adjust their current schedules to ensure full attendance.
The federal lawmakers had previously suspended plenary sessions to facilitate the ongoing 2026 budget defense process by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). While the specific agenda for Tuesday’s session has not been disclosed, the Clerk’s statement emphasized the gravity of the meeting:
“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are kindly requested to take note and reschedule their engagements accordingly… as very crucial decisions shall be taken by each Chamber during the session.”
This move marks an acceleration of the legislative timetable. It follows closely on the heels of a recent emergency session held by the Senate to address controversies surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026.
Initially, the chambers were not expected to return to full session until February 24. This early recall signals that pressing national matters require immediate legislative intervention and “renewed activity” within the hallowed chambers.
