House Committee on Women Affairs Engages Ministry on 2024 Budget and Gender Development Mandate

Wednesday, December 3, 2025 | The House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, led by its Chair, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, held a critical engagement session with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs on Wednesday at the National Assembly complex. The meeting was convened to discuss strategic ways to further advance the Ministry’s mandate of promoting gender equality, safeguarding the rights of women and girls, and enhancing their overall welfare across the nation.

The session, which included the Minister of Women Affairs, H.E. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, formed a key part of the Committee’s ongoing legislative oversight, specifically focusing on the review of the 2024 budget performance and assessing the impact of critical programs designed to improve the lives of women and girls nationwide.

During the discussions, Hon. Ogbara highlighted the crucial importance of the oversight process in ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable impact of government spending. She noted that financial allocations must translate into tangible and meaningful improvements for women and girls in every corner of Nigeria.

The Hon. Minister, acknowledged the pivotal role of women and girls in national development and shared insights into the Ministry’s current efforts, including plans to review and update existing laws and policies. She also announced intentions to submit these revised frameworks to the National Assembly shortly for legislative consideration.

In response, Hon. Ogbara reaffirmed the Committee’s unwavering commitment to working collaboratively with the Ministry.
