National Assembly Library Explores Strategic Partnership with Nigerian Law Reform Commission

Thursday, February 12, 2026 | The Governance, Constitution and Public Administration (GCP) Unit of the National Assembly Library’s Research Department, accompanied by the Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary on Strategy and Research, conducted a high-level strategic visit to the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC).

The visit was aimed at exploring robust areas of mutual collaboration intended to strengthen Nigeria’s legal framework and modernize legislative processes. As the nation navigates a complex period of economic and social reform, the engagement served as a vital step toward aligning policy research with practical law reform initiatives.

During the session, representatives from both organizations identified key avenues for institutional partnership, focusing on:

  • Establishing a pipeline for sharing legal expertise and governance best practices.
  • Collaborative data-driven research to provide a foundation for new legislative proposals.
  • Streamlining efforts to ensure that Nigerian laws remain contemporary, inclusive, and supportive of national development goals.

Speaking on the significance of the visit, Dr. Matthew Coker, the Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary on Strategy and Research emphasized that “this strategic synergy is essential for creating an environment where policy intent is effectively captured by the law.”

The Nigerian Law Reform Commission expressed its openness to the partnership, noting that such inter-agency cooperation is critical for reducing duplication of efforts and accelerating the pace of legal reforms necessary for national prosperity. This engagement marks the beginning of a structured dialogue between the National Assembly Library and the NLRC, with follow-up technical sessions expected to define the specific roadmap for this partnership in the coming months.
