The National Assembly Library Trust Fund welcomed over 300 students from schools across the Federal Capital Territory in celebration of Children’s Day 2025. The young visitors were taken on an immersive tour of the Library’s state-of-the-art facilities, where they learned about Nigeria’s rich legislative history and the workings of the National Assembly.

They also engaged in an interactive session with the leadership of the House of Representatives.

It was heartwarming to see the energy and brilliance of the young minds who took part in engaging conversations with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, GCON, PhD, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, CON, and other honourable members. Ten schools from the FCT engaged in the session: GSS Bwari, GGSS Abaji, GSS Kwali, GSS Gwagwalada, GSS Kagini, GSS Kuje, Kingsville School Jabi, Africa Community School Asokoro, International Community School Jabi, and Britarch School Lugbe.

Earlier in the day the Senate and House of Representatives welcomed the young visitors into the National Assembly to witness proceedings and tour the National Assembly. Both chambers held special plenary sessions which the students joined. During the plenary for House of Representatives, the Speaker vacated his seat for Lawal Haruna Sani, a student of Government Secondary School, Kuje, who presided in ceremonial capacity as ‘Shadow Speaker;’ marking the second such symbolic gesture by the Speaker during the 10th Assembly.

But it wasn’t all learning—there were plenty of moments for fun and games, making it a truly memorable day for everyone involved.

At the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, we remain committed to building a generation that values knowledge, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
