National Assembly Library Trust Fund Celebrates One Year of Transforming Legislative Knowledge

The National Assembly Library Trust Fund (NALTF) today marked its one-year anniversary since it was formally unveiled by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on May 29, 2024. Themed “One Team, One Dream – Mission Possible“, the anniversary celebration served as a moment of reflection, evaluation, and commendation of the milestones achieved in just 12 months.

In his address to staff and management, the Executive Secretary of NALTF, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the commitment and dedication of the entire team. He noted that the organization, although still in its early stages, has made significant strides in actualizing its core mandate.

We were created with a bold mandate — to be the engine room for knowledge-driven legislation in Nigeria. In just one year, we have begun turning vision into action

Nwawuba reiterated the mandate of the NALTF,

  • To acquire and manage a comprehensive collection of legislative, legal, and scholarly resources;
  • To drive digital transformation, ensuring our assets are preserved and accessible in real time;
  • To foster public access to knowledge, promoting transparency and civic engagement;
  • To provide capacity building for legislative staff and researchers;
  • And to support research and innovation that empowers evidence-based policymaking

He further acknowledged the unwavering support of the leadership of the National Assembly in ensuring that NALTF stays on course to fulfill its objectives. Rt. Hon. Nwawuba commended each department, unit, and member of the management team for their collective efforts in building what NALTF has become today.

Among the notable achievements recorded in the past year are: Operationalization of the e-Library, now hosting over 2,000 resources and serving thousands of users across Nigeria; Launch of a Legislative Museum, equipped with immersive virtual reality (VR) technology that brings Nigeria’s legislative history to life; Commencement of digitization of critical legislative materials to ensure preservation and accessibility for future generations.

Keynote Speaker at the NALTF Anniversary Event – Dr. Victor Dare, Better Ways Group Managing Director

As part of the day’s events, a keynote seminar on “Organizational Culture and Attitudinal Change” was delivered by Dr. Victor Dare, Group Managing Director of Better Ways Group. He emphasized the importance of the “One Team, One Dream – Mission Possible” philosophy and delved into key workplace values under the acronym SPICE – Service, Professionalism, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence. He also highlighted the need for mutual respect, professional boundaries, and creating a culture of excellence.

Other speakers at the event included Mr. Sunday Ameh, Deputy Director/HOD-Admin & Human Resources; Mrs. Nneamaka Okafor, Admin Unit Head for Staff Training and Welfare; Ms. Chinenye Monde-Anumihe, SA, Corporate Services, Partnerships & Programs; and Mrs. Deborah Joseph, Director of Library Services. They celebrated the library’s milestones and encouraged staff to embrace the principle that “the reward for hard work is more work.”

The celebration also featured trivia sessions, photo moments, staff recognition, and an interactive session between staff and the Executive Secretary.
