The primary objective of the bill is to establish a new federal university in Epe, Lagos State, focusing on science and technology education. The proposed institution aims to produce highly skilled graduates equipped to contribute to Nigeria’s innovation and economic growth, particularly in the digital economy.

The university will offer a diverse range of programs, including:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Software Engineering
  • Data Science
  • Artificial Intelligence

Senator Ashiru highlighted Epe’s potential as a fast-growing economic and industrial hub, noting its proximity to Ibeju-Lekki, a major center for industrial activities. This strategic location makes it an ideal site for launching a university focused on these critical fields.

Furthermore, establishing new federal universities aligns with a broader legislative trend aimed at expanding access to specialized tertiary education and addressing regional disparities in the distribution of federal institutions.
