The Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, has been honoured with the “Icon of Legislative Research” Award by the House of Representatives Press Corps in recognition of his significant contributions to the advancement of legislative research, knowledge development, and effective parliamentary practice.

Nwawuba received the award during the 2nd Annual Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture, organized by the House of Representatives Press Corps at the National Assembly Library Multipurpose Hall in Abuja.

The lecture, themed “The Imperative for State Police: Securing Communities, Strengthening Federalism,” brought together lawmakers, parliamentary stakeholders, members of the media and other participants to discuss contemporary legislative and governance issues.

Presenting the citation for the award, the House of Representatives Press Corps highlighted Nwawuba’s achievements as the pioneer Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library and Resource Centre, particularly his efforts to enhance research and knowledge resources for lawmakers and to support the legislative process.

The Press Corps further acknowledged the broader impact of his stewardship of the National Assembly Library and his initiatives to strengthen the Library’s institutional capacity as a resource centre for lawmakers and the wider National Assembly community.

In his response, Nwawuba described the recognition as both a personal honour and a reaffirmation of the responsibility of the National Assembly Library to continuously strengthen the knowledge and research infrastructure supporting effective legislation.

Expressing his gratitude to the House of Representatives Press Corps, the Executive Secretary stated that the recognition extends beyond personal commendation, noting that it reinforces the collective responsibility of the Library to provide lawmakers with the research, information, and knowledge resources necessary for informed legislative decision-making.

This recognition further underscores the increasing importance of legislative research and knowledge management in strengthening parliamentary institutions and supporting lawmakers in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.
