President’s Message
The Speaker presented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message on passage of some Bills into law to the House which include:
- Bill that seeks to increase the Federal High Court Judges from 70-90
- Amendment Bill to increase Justices of the Court of Appeal from 70-110
- The 24 Health Sector Bills.
The bill seeks to review the following and more inorder to ensure efficiency:
- National Hospital for Women and Childre 2025
- Orthopaedic Hospital Amendment Bill 2025
- Medical and Dental Practioner Bill 2025
- Nursing and Midwifery Amendment Bill 2025
- Medical Laboratory Science of Nigeria 2025
- Dental Therapist Amendment Bill 2025
Pettions
A total number of four pettitions were laid before the House.
Hon. Ikenga Imo representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency, Imo State presented a pettion on the unlawful killing of a Nigerian in Canada and in a diaspora. He therefore asked for an active engagement by Nigerian High Commission in Canada to monitor the criminal proceedings and ensure that justice is accurately and diligently pursueed. He aso asked for the development of stronger policies and framework for the protection of Nigerians in diaspora.
Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi representing Ndokwa East/West/ Ukwani Federal Constituency , Delta State presented a pettion against the cruel and babaric actions of Mr Isaac Ofolabi.
Matters of Urgent Public Importance
Hon. Usman Bello kumo raised a motion on the incessant banditry attack on some communities in Akko Federal Constituency, Gombe State that resulted in the killing of six people, abduction of 20 others currently held hostage and destruction of properties.
Hon. Ibe Okpara Osonwa from Arochukwu Ohofia in Abia State raised a motion on the violent incident that occurred in Okonoaku, Ohofia LGA on the January 2 2026 which resulted in the killing of Ige Akunwa, others that sustained various degrees of injuries, houses and cars burnt. He stated that if this is not well addressed, “it could result in wider community unrest”
In the resolve , the House urged the Nigerian Army through the Good luck Ebere Jonathan Barracks 14 Brigade to establish a forward operating base in Okonoaku Ohofia and make appropriate House Committees to engage relevant stakeholders to prevent further violence and ensure lasting peace in Okonoaku and the surrounding environment.
Hon. Donald from Eseodo/Ilaje Federal Constituency, Ondo State presented a motion on the Need to arrest the growing tension and prevent the breakdown of Law and order in the Oil-rich Eba Island & Nakiri Kingdom, in the boundary between Ilaje Ondo State &Ogun State.
