Tuesday, November 11, 2025 | A bill to establish the Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Communication Technology Solutions Centre in Ekiti State has scaled second reading in the Senate.
Sponsored by Sen. Adeyemi Adaramodu (APC – Ekiti South), the proposed centre will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, including robotics and data science. Its main objectives include advancing research and innovation, promoting skills development among young Nigerians, and positioning the country as a leader in digital solutions for local and national challenges.
The centre aims to foster collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector, supporting local employment, entrepreneurship, and the development of homegrown digital solutions – part of a broader strategy to drive digital transformation and economic growth in Nigeria’s technology sector.
Adaramodu told lawmakers that artificial intelligence and technological innovation now shape governance, commerce, education, health care and national security across the world.
Nations that fail to invest strategically in these technologies risk being left behind in the 21st-century knowledge economy.

He explained that the centre is designed to serve as a research and training hub, connecting government, industry, and academic institutions, with a focus on equipping young Nigerians with valuable digital and AI-based skills. Adding that establishing the centre is expected to drive innovation and spur economic development in the South-West and across the country.
“When fully established, the centre will act as a national platform for developing homegrown digital solutions to challenges in agriculture, health, education, and public service delivery. It will empower Nigerian youths to compete globally in AI and technology, and foster indigenous innovation to reduce reliance on imported technologies,” the Senator stated.
“Artificial Intelligence is the new frontier of human progress. Every developed nation is investing in AI infrastructure and innovation centres. Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind,” he said.
The bill was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation for further legislative action and reporting within four weeks.
