SENATE CONSIDERS N2.8 TRILLION NAIRA SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL

The Senate Chamber on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 acknowledged the receipt of a N2.8 trillion Naira Supplementary Appropriation Bill. The financial estimates were sent to the Parliament via a letter addressed to the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It was read on the floor of the Red Chamber during the plenary session.

The Money Bill sought to finance and boost the nation’s critical infrastructures and provide legal backing for the payment of palliatives to Nigerians aimed at cushioning the negative impact of the withdrawal of petroleum product subsidy by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

Ultimately, given its urgency, the legislation was accorded expeditious consideration by the Upper Legislative Chamber. Hence, it was read the first and second time and accordingly referred to the Senate Committee on Appropriation for further legislative inputs.

Sen. Solomon Adeola (APC Ogun West), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation said the Committee met with the Heads of Agencies of the Federal Government on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. He disclosed that the Report on the Bill would be presented before the Red Chamber on Thursday, November 2, 2023, for consideration and passage.
