Senate President Akpabio Commissions Lagos Projects, Urges States to Replicate Standard

Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, at the inauguration of three landmark infrastructure projects in Ikeja, Lagos. The commissioned projects include the new Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge Project, the Lagos State Geographical Information System and the Multi-agency complex, Alausa, now known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akpabio lauded the Lagos State Government’s ability to maintain focus and financial discipline. He emphasized that the state’s trajectory serves as a vital lesson for a “moving” Nigeria.

“These projects align with our national vision: a Nigeria that is modern, digitally enabled, and economically strong. This is the standard we must replicate across the country”.

The projects are designed to address urban congestion and administrative bottlenecks:

  • Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge: A 3.89km infrastructure masterpiece to bypass the perennially congested Mende and Maryland axes, significantly reducing travel time for commuters heading toward Ikeja.
  • LAGIS Building: A digital nerve center for land administration, will automate land titles and geospatial data to improve the ease of doing business.
  • Multi-Agency Building: An administrative hub to consolidate various state parastatals under one roof to enhance inter-agency synergy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his welcome address, noted that the projects are a continuation of the vision laid down by President Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos. He pledged that with roughly 400 days remaining in his administration, his team would “double down” on infrastructure to ensure a strong finish.

Dignitaries at the event, including several state governors and members of the National Assembly, joined Akpabio in a symbolic drive across the new bridge, signaling its official opening to the public. Akpabio concluded by reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting policies that improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.
