The National Assembly Library hosted the 4th Cohort of the Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) for a comprehensive day of masterclass sessions, bringing young, aspiring leaders in direct contact with National Assembly and Library officials. The event was a key feature in the LMI’s curriculum designed to build the next generation of Nigeria’s public sector leadership.
The highlight of the day was a session led by the Library Executive Secretary, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, who delivered a crucial masterclass on the Preservation of Legislative Records and their profound impact on institutional memory and informed policy making.

“For decades, Nigeria has struggled with poor record-keeping culture,” said Nwawuba during his address. “My personal vision – and now the driving mission of the National Assembly Library – is to build an archival and retrieval system so robust that from the comfort of your house, you can get any Bill and any Motion that has ever been introduced before the floor of the House, from 1951 to this very day.”
The Executive Secretary also discussed the history of the National Assembly Library and its pivotal role in the development of Nigeria’s democracy and legislative process over the years. The session provided the LMI Fellows-in-Training with a deep appreciation for the technical and historical infrastructure that supports effective governance.
Other officials of the National Assembly engaged the Cohort in various capacity-building sessions, focusing on the practical application of legislative knowledge and parliamentary best practices. The Initiative aims to equip young Nigerians with the responsive leadership skills, knowledge, and expertise required to enhance public service delivery.
