Tuesday, November 18, 2025 | The House of Representatives has highlighted the urgent need for focused developmental action in the Askira–Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State, following heightened socio-economic and infrastructural challenges, largely exacerbated by prolonged insurgency and underdevelopment. The motion was presented on Tuesday by Hon. Midala Usman Balami.
The House expressed grave concern over the significant development gaps facing the constituency, including deteriorating road networks, limited access to potable water, insufficient healthcare and educational facilities, high unemployment rates, and persistent security threats. While acknowledging the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts through various intervention programmes, lawmakers emphasized the necessity for sustained and targeted interventions tailored to the unique needs of conflict-affected communities in Askira–Uba/Hawul.
In a resolution passed by the House, members:
- Urged the Federal Government to prioritize critical development projects for Askira–Uba/Hawul in the 2026 budget estimates;
- Called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Reduction, International Partners, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to support community rebuilding and development initiatives;
- Mandated the North–East Development Commission (NEDC) to prioritize intervention projects in Askira–Uba/Hawul;
- Directed the Committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure effective implementation of these resolutions.
This decisive action by the House underscores its commitment to bridging the development gap in Askira–Uba/Hawul and fostering sustainable growth, peace, and improved living standards for its residents.
