The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially received four members of the House of Representatives who announced their resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) during a plenary session on Wednesday.
The lawmakers, representing various federal constituencies, formally communicated their decision to the Speaker of the House, citing persistent internal leadership conflicts and factionalization within their former political platforms as the primary reasons for their departure.
The defecting members include:
- Hon.Garba Inuwa, representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency of Gombe State. (PDP)
- Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State. (PDP)
- Hon. Mohammed Audu, representing Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola Federal Constituency of Taraba State. (PDP)
- Hon. Joshua Obika, representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory. (LP)
In their respective letters read on the House floor, the legislators emphasized that the ongoing legal and administrative turmoils within the PDP and LP have made it increasingly difficult to effectively represent their constituents and fulfill their legislative mandates. They noted that the APC offers a more stable and unified platform to support the “Renewed Hope” agenda for national development.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas welcomed the new members to the majority party, noting that their inclusion strengthens the legislative capacity of the House to pass critical reforms.
The move marks a significant shift in the House’s composition, further consolidating the APC’s majority. This wave of defections reflects a broader trend of political realignment as lawmakers seek stability amid internal disputes within Nigeria’s main opposition parties.
The APC National Secretariat has lauded the move, describing the lawmakers as “experienced public servants” whose contributions will be vital to the party’s legislative goals and the progress of the nation.
