Senate President Akpabio Reaffirms National Assembly’s Commitment to Transforming Nigeria’s Capital

The President of The Senate, His Excellency,Dr. Godswill Akpabio, GCON, has pledged the unwavering support of the National Assembly toward the ongoing development, transformation, and modern upgrading of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the FCT Administration’s grand “Thank You Dinner,” Senate President Akpabio highlighted the executive and legislative synergy driving infrastructural development across the nation’s capital. The event marked the successful conclusion of an intensive, 31-day marathon of project commissionings and groundbreaking flag-offs across the territory.

During his address, Dr. Akpabio emphasized that true leadership is defined by tangible outcomes rather than mere rhetoric.

“While words may inspire, concrete convinces. Across the FCT, Nigerians are not merely hearing about development; they are driving on it, walking through it, and living in it. This is how governance should be measured,” Akpabio stated.

The Senate President lauded the unprecedented volume of infrastructure delivered within the timeframe, commending FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike for his performance and leadership. He noted that the 31-day campaign successfully delivered critical roads, bridges, water supply systems, public buildings, and essential civic utilities.

Dr. Akpabio also reflected on the vital connection between legislative budgeting and real-world impact:

“As legislators, we often pass appropriation bills. But every appropriation carries with it a sacred expectation that somewhere, somehow, the figures on paper will become structures that improve human lives. Tonight, we have seen what happens when budgets become pavements, and promises become projects.”

Earlier in the evening, FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike reiterated that the intensive series of project inaugurations and flag-offs aims to accelerate the FCT’s growth, modernizing its infrastructure to align with top global standards.

The National Assembly remains committed to passing strategic legislation and appropriation measures that support sustainable urban development and enhance the quality of life for all residents of the capital territory.
