The Senate confirms key executive appointments and resolves to seek federal intervention for security in Benue State before adjourning for the Sallah recess.

The Senate during Thursdays Plenary Session, confirmed the appointments of Saidu Usman Dakingari as a non-career Ambassador and Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The appointment of retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar Sadiq as the National Electoral Commissioner (NEC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North East, was also confirmed.

The confirmations were sequel to the request of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the subsequent consideration and adoption of the reports of the committees on foreign affairs and the electoral act, of the Senate that screened the nominees.

Earlier, five bills scaled the first reading stage at plenary.

Furthermore, a motion was considered and adopted on the recent spate of killings in communities of the Kwande local government area in Benue State. The motion was moved by Senator Emmanuel Udende. The Senate condemned the killings of innocent citizens from these communities and other places across the country.

It noted with commendation President Tinubu’s efforts to rout all forms of violent criminality in the nation.

Among other resolutions, the plenary called on the Federal Government to establish a military base in the area to restore stability and enable the safe return of displaced persons to their homes.

Lastly, the senate suspended plenary from today 12 March, 2026 to 31st March, 2026 due to the Upcoming Sallah Break and enable committees complete their budget defenses before then.
