Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, arrived Istanbul as part of the Nigerian delegation attending the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.

The delegation, led by the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Godswill Akpabio, joined parliamentarians and legislative officials from around the world at the five-day gathering in Türkiye.
The 152nd Assembly opened on April 15 under the theme, “Nurturing Hope, Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations.” The event is being held from April 15 to April 19 in Istanbul and includes meetings of the IPU Governing Council, Standing Committees, Women Parliamentarians Forum and Young MPs Forum.

Speaking after the opening session, Nwawuba said his participation is focused on strengthening the role of the National Assembly Library in Nigeria’s lawmaking process.
According to him, the National Assembly Library is working toward deeper collaboration with global digital resource centres to improve research support for lawmakers.
He said the IPU Assembly offers an opportunity to learn from leading parliamentary research institutions across the world.
“Our focus is on ensuring that the National Assembly Library remains a centre of innovation, providing legislators with the high-level data and historical context required for impactful lawmaking,” he said.
Nwawuba also highlighted the growing importance of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing international conflicts and promoting peace.

He said the IPU platform allows lawmakers to engage in open dialogue, exchange ideas and contribute to solutions on global issues.
Nwawuba praised the leadership of Akpabio and said Nigeria’s strong participation at the Assembly reflects the country’s commitment to parliamentary engagement in Africa and the Commonwealth.
The 152nd IPU Assembly is expected to conclude on April 19 with resolutions on post-conflict peacebuilding, global trade, protectionism, human rights and the election of a new IPU Secretary-General.
