The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has strongly condemned the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, calling for a “careful, clinical, and timely” rescue operation to ensure their safe return.
The condemnation follows a weekend assault by gunmen who raided three academic institutions in the Oriire Local Government Area: Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele. Scores of students and educators were abducted during the coordinated attacks.
Speaker Abbas acknowledged the swift response of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who conducted an immediate on-the-spot assessment and deployed tactical forces to the region. However, the Speaker emphasized that the worsening situation demands maximum urgency.
“While we commend the immediate deployment of security forces, the critical nature of this situation requires both speed and precision,” Speaker Abbas stated. “The absolute priority of this mission must be the safety and well being of the abducted children and their teachers.”
The Speaker further demanded that security agencies leave no stone unturned in tracking down the perpetrators, insisting that the kidnappers must face the full wrath of the law.
The House of Representatives remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s security apparatus to secure the release of the victims and restore peace to the affected communities.
