On Tuesday, June 23, 2026,the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON read a letter from the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR transmitting an Executive Bill on State Police to the National Assembly. The State Police Bill will be the focal point of our tomorrow’s emergency plenary session as we work to address the country’s security challenges.

The Senate suspended its highly anticipated emergency plenary session, pausing all legislative business including the critical debate on the State Police Bill to honour the memory of House of Representatives member, Hon. Yaya Tongo.
