Senate Confirms Dr. Zainab Marwa as NDDC Board Member

The Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Dr. Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Dr. Marwa will serve on the board as the representative for the North-East geopolitical zone.

The confirmation followed the presentation, consideration, and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on NDDC during Wednesday’s plenary session. The report, originally sponsored by the Committee Chairman, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South), was presented on the floor by Senator Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North).

While presenting the findings, Senator Ndubueze stated that the committee had conducted an open and rigorous screening of the nominee to evaluate her competence, professional experience, integrity, and readiness for the strategic role.

“Having carefully screened the nominee and considered all relevant documents submitted, the committee is satisfied that Dr. Zainab Marwa possesses the requisite qualifications, experience, integrity, and competence required for the appointment,” Senator Ndubueze reported. “Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Senate do confirm the appointment.”

Following a brief transition into the Committee of the Whole to deliberate on the recommendations, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, put the confirmation to a final voice vote, which was unanimously passed by the lawmakers.

“The nomination of Dr. Zainab Marwa, representing the North-East in the Niger Delta Development Commission, is hereby confirmed as a member of the governing board,” Senate President Akpabio announced. “I thank the Committee on NDDC for the expeditious manner in which this assignment was carried out… I wish the confirmed nominee well, and I hope that her contribution will enhance the development and progress of the Niger Delta region.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had originally transmitted Dr. Marwa’s nomination to the upper chamber in an executive letter read on June 4, acting in accordance with Section 2(2) of the NDDC Establishment Act. Dr. Marwa succeeds Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas on the board, following his resignation on March 30, 2026, to contest the Adamawa State governorship election.
