National Assembly Library to Host Strategic National Dialogues During NASS Open Week 2026

The National Assembly Library will play a central role in the forthcoming NASS Open Week 2026, as host to a series of strategic engagements aimed at promoting legislative transparency, national dialogue, and collaborative governance.

The three-day event, scheduled for 14 to 16 July 2026, is themed “Three Years of the 10th Assembly: Advancing Transparency, Inclusion and Reform.” It aims to provide citizens and stakeholders with an opportunity to engage with the legislative process and to highlight the achievements and reform agenda of the 10th National Assembly under the leadership of His Excellency, Dist. Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, and His Excellency, Rt. Hon Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON.

As Nigeria’s leading legislative knowledge and research institution, the National Assembly Library will host a number of strategic sessions that convene policymakers, experts, the private sector, civil society organisations, development partners, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on issues of national importance.

The Library’s engagements will begin with the Oversight and Delivery Exchange, themed “How Oversight Delivers Results.” This session will examine the role of legislative oversight in promoting accountability, strengthening public institutions, and ensuring effective implementation of government policies and programmes. Participants will discuss practical approaches to enhancing oversight as a tool for delivering measurable outcomes for citizens.

The Library will also host the National Security Roundtable, themed “Towards a Safer Nigeria.” This dialogue will convene legislators, security experts, government officials, traditional rulers and relevant stakeholders to examine Nigeria’s evolving security landscape, assess current policy responses, and identify legislative interventions to strengthen national security and safeguard the country’s future.

Proceedings at the Library will continue with the Legislative Business Breakfast, under the theme “Driving Reform Through Partnership.” This meeting will provide a platform for lawmakers, business leaders, development partners, academia, and policy experts to exchange ideas on strengthening collaboration between the legislature and key economic sectors to support sustainable national development and institutional reform.

The selection of the National Assembly Library as the venue for these strategic engagements reflects its expanding role as Nigeria’s foremost legislative knowledge hub and a center for policy dialogue, research excellence, and democratic learning.

“The National Assembly Library has evolved beyond its traditional role as a repository of legislative information. It has become a dynamic platform where ideas are exchanged, policies are interrogated, and meaningful conversations that shape national development take place.

Hosting these important engagements during NASS Open Week further underscores our commitment to supporting evidence-based legislation, promoting informed public discourse, and strengthening democratic governance.”

The National Assembly Library invites policymakers, members of the diplomatic community, development partners, academia, civil society organisations, the media, and all accredited participants to engage in these sessions via the Center’s official media channels and contribute to discussions that will shape the future of legislative governance in Nigeria.

Through research, innovation, strategic partnerships, and knowledge-driven engagement, the National Assembly Library remains committed to supporting the National Assembly in building a more transparent, accountable, inclusive, and responsive legislature.
