On July 15, 2026, the senate considered and passed three bills seeking to reduce the statutory number of members on the governing boards of some professional bodies for second reading.

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2022 (Amendment) Bill, 2026
The Nursing and Midwifery (Registration, Etc.) Act, 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2026
The Radiographers (Registration, Etc.) Act, 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin during the debate noted that reducing the number of members on the boards of these statutory bodies reduces the frequent friction and infighting associated with their large memberships. It also saves enormous resources that can be ploughed back into critical capital projects and enhances accountability in governance.
The senate also considered and adopted four reports, including
The report of the Conference Committee on the National Assembly Pension Board Act, 2023 (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The reports of the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions in respect of a petition from Onyebuchi Obioha on behalf of Audrey Chizitere Obioha against Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over alleged withholding of her JAMB result in 2024.
A petition from Nzubechukwu Precious Nwoko on behalf of Mr. Dan Ochima Agbese against the FCT IRS for alleged refusal to refund the sum of seventeen million, one hundred and seventy nine thousand, one hundred and thirty two Naira, twenty-six Kobo (N17,179,132.26) only to Efficiency Legal (Client Account) being amount erroneously paid into the Account of FCT-IRS by Efficiency Legal (Client Account) in September, 2024.
A petition from Emmanuel Orjika against Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and Airtel Networks Limited on alleged manhandling, torture, murder, Etc, by Airtel for requesting the refund of his twelve thousand Naira (N12,000.00) only in 2024.
Furthermore, the senate equally considered and adopted a motion on the suspected bandits’ attacks and killing of twenty innocent residents of Akpachi-Ugboju, Otukpo-Nobi and Ondo Ugboju communities of Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State. The motion was moved by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro. Among other resolutions, the Senate mandated that the Inspector General of Police conduct a thorough investigation into the attacks, track down the perpetrators, and ensure they are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
