Senate President Akpabio Announces ₦50 Million Support Package for Victims of Oriire Abduction

The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio, has approved a financial support package of ₦50 million for the families of victims tragically killed in the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Announcing the gesture during plenary on Wednesday, Senate President Akpabio stated that the initiative is part of broader federal efforts to assist bereaved families and strengthen support mechanisms for affected citizens.

Under the relief package, ₦10 million will be allocated to each family of the five victims, which include:

Three servicemen who paid the ultimate price during the rescue operation.

Two teachers who tragically lost their lives during the incident.

Senate President Akpabio emphasized that the financial assistance reflects the Senate’s deep commitment to supporting grieving families while honoring the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen security personnel.

In addition to the financial intervention, the Senate urged national security agencies to intensify coordinated operations across the country to secure the safe release of all remaining abducted citizens.

During the session, Senator Abdul Ningi called on the Senate to ensure that compensation and assistance frameworks for victims of national security breaches are extended equitably to all affected Nigerians without discrimination.
