Deputy Senate President Barau Reaffirms Commitment to Youth & Business Growth

In recognition of his landmark interventions in education, human capital development, and commercial empowerment, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has been honored with twin awards by key academic and business stakeholders from Kano State on September 30, 2026.

The academic award was presented during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly by members of the Kano Lecturers Forum (KLF), a prominent body of academics hailing from Kano State who lecture across various tertiary institutions nationwide.

Led by KLF Chairman Dr. Abdulkadir Abubakar Bichi of Northwest University, Kano, the delegation stated that the forum had closely monitored Senator Barau’s educational initiatives over the past three years.

Bestowing the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Educational Development on the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Bichi highlighted Senator Barau’s impact across multiple facets of learning.

“In recognition of your contributions to the advancement of education, human capital development, science and technology, and the expansion of educational opportunities, we are bestowing this Award for Outstanding Contributions to Educational Development on you,” the delegation announced.

To substantiate their assessment, the forum unveiled a comprehensive pamphlet documenting the lawmaker’s record. They noted that his key contributions encompass institution-building, postgraduate training, scholarship schemes, educational infrastructure development, expanded tertiary access, and support for emerging technologies.

Expressing appreciation for the honor, Senator Barau noted that human capital development remains essential to long-term economic prosperity and national growth.

“Nothing is too much for the development of education, because human capital development is the sine qua non of sustainable economic development,” Barau stated, emphasizing that building youth capacity is key to technological advancement. He assured the academics that the recognition would serve as a catalyst for even greater service to Kano State and Nigeria.

In a separate audience on the same day, the Deputy Senate President met with the leadership of the Kano North Marketers Association based in Abuja, led by its newly elected Chairman, Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Kabo.

Representing traders from across the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District, the association presented Senator Barau with an award acknowledging his support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and business empowerment.

Senator Barau congratulated Alhaji Kabo on his election, praising his dedication to community development. Reaffirming his commitment to the business sector, the Deputy Senate President reiterated the vital role enterprises play in job creation and economic stability, pledging continued legislative and policy support to foster a thriving business environment.
