The Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, after its annual recess. Senate President Akpabio addressed the pressing issues facing our people: insecurity, flooding, the high cost of living, and the responsibility before us to respond with urgency and purpose.
Nigeria’s most pressing challenges must remain at the heart of our work in the Senate.
Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The abduction of Nigerians in Marisa and at Dekera Mosque is deeply troubling. Sympathy is not enough. Senator Akpabio called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those still in captivity and strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities across the country.
Senate President Akpabio also spoke about the economy. The reforms being undertaken must ultimately make a difference in the everyday lives of Nigerians. Our people must be able to feel their impact in their homes, businesses and communities.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, Senator Akpabio urged political leaders to keep their campaigns peaceful and focused on the issues. No electoral prize is worth a Nigerian life.

The Senate also received six communications from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, covering appointments, the 2026 NDDC budget and a number of establishment bills. They have been referred to the relevant committees for consideration.
The Senate also mourned the passing of former Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, and the late Emir of Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad Sani. May their souls rest in peace.
The Senate is back to work, fully conscious of the challenges before our country and the responsibility we owe the Nigerian people.
The Senate Adjourned Plenary to Tuesday October 13, 2026.
