The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic crash of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR 42 aircraft near Igbokoda, located in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The devastating incident resulted in the tragic loss of 32 lives, comprising 25 passengers and 7 crew members.
In an official statement delivered on behalf of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Akpabio extended his deepest condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of the Air Staff, and the entire leadership, officers, and men of the nation’s Armed Forces.
Akpabio emphasized that the nation’s thoughts remain foremost with the bereaved families and loved ones of those who perished in the crash during this period of unspeakable loss.
“A nation may mourn its fallen heroes, but it must never forget the courage with which they gave their lives in service to the Republic,” Akpabio stated, describing the event as a profoundly painful moment for the country and specifically for the Nigerian Air Force.
Offering prayers for the repose of the victims’ souls, the Senate President prayed that Almighty God comfort the grieving families and the entire nation during this dark hour.
