On October 6, 2026, The First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament and Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mémounatou Ibrahima, received the President of Senegal and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, at the parliamentary headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the regional legislature during the official visit, Senator Jibrin commended President Faye for prioritizing institutional dialogue and demonstrating a strong commitment to an ECOWAS focused on the needs of West African citizens.
Senator Jibrin noted that the high-level engagement highlights the vital role the parliament plays in representing the aspirations of the regional populace and driving the broader regional integration project.

“His presence among us as parliamentarians reflects the importance he attaches to dialogue among the institutions of our Community and, especially, to the role of Parliament in building an ECOWAS that is closer to its citizens,” Jibrin stated.
He added that regular collaboration between the Authority of Heads of State and Government and the parliamentary body is crucial for ensuring coherence in community actions, reinforcing democracy, and fostering greater ownership of regional goals among citizens.
According to the First Deputy Speaker, the landmark visit serves as an encouragement for the parliament to continue working responsibly toward expanding its institutional role and strengthening ties across the West African sub-region.
On behalf of the ECOWAS Parliament, Jibrin extended best wishes to President Faye as he leads the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during his tenure.
