Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, is representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the 10th Senate at the 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Global Conference in Brussels, Belgium.

Held under the theme “Transparency for shared prosperity,” the triennial flagship gathering brings together over 1,000 stakeholders including government officials, extractive industry leaders, civil society organizations, investors, and development partners from more than 50 countries. The event is co-hosted by the Government of Belgium and the European Commission to foster global dialogue and advance accountability in oil, gas, and mineral resource management.
Given the vital role of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria’s economy, alongside ongoing efforts to enhance revenue collection and sector transparency, Nigeria maintains a significant stake in the EITI process.

Highlighting the legislative commitment to fiscal responsibility, Senator Dankwambo emphasized the importance of robust oversight during his participation:
“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, my participation reflects our commitment to strengthening legislative oversight, promoting prudent management of public funds, and ensuring that Nigeria’s natural resource revenues deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” Dankwambo stated.
“Nigerians deserve clear information on public revenues, their utilisation, and the results achieved. Transparent and accountable resource management is essential to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. I look forward to drawing on these engagements to support the Senate’s oversight responsibilities and our continued service to the Nigerian people.”
A seasoned public administrator, Senator Dankwambo previously served as the Accountant-General of the Federation and as the Executive Governor of Gombe State from 2011 to 2019. His participation underscores the National Assembly’s dedication to aligning Nigeria’s resource governance with global best practices.
