The Senate has officially called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to treat the escalating security threats and mass displacement of residents in Kebbi State as a top-priority national security and humanitarian crisis. The resolution comes in the wake of violent attacks by armed bandits fleeing intensified military campaigns in neighboring states.

Following a motion moved by Senator Adamu Aliero and seconded by Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Ondo South), the upper chamber expressed deep concern over the influx of armed groups into Kebbi. Lawmakers highlighted that these incursions have led to widespread killings, forced displacement, and severe disruption to local livelihoods, threatening a major humanitarian fallout.

The Senate urged the Federal Government to provide the necessary funding, logistics, and manpower to secure vulnerable communities. It specifically called on the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Inspector-General of Police in coordination with intelligence agencies to enhance joint operations, improve surveillance, and deploy adequate personnel to neutralize the bandit groups.

Furthermore, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was directed to conduct an immediate needs assessment and deliver essential relief materials to displaced residents. Support measures will include food, clean water, temporary shelter, medical supplies, clothing, and sanitation facilities to preserve the health and dignity of affected households.

The Senate advocated for a collaborative response mechanism between the Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government. This taskforce will streamline interventions, prevent duplication of relief efforts, and ensure equitable distribution of support.

In addition, lawmakers emphasized that long-term stability relies on enabling displaced residents to return home safely. Both tiers of government were urged to restore essential public services, rebuild damaged infrastructure, and support local economic recovery once safety is restored.

The Senate also called for a thorough investigation into the killings associated with the attacks, explicitly referencing the reported murder of three employees of Hitech. Relevant agencies were instructed to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.

In a solemn mark of respect, the Senate observed a minute of silence to honor all victims of the recent attacks and extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and impacted communities across Kebbi State.
