Senate Confirms Former Sports Minister Sani Ndanusa As Ambassador-Designate

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed former Minister of Sports, Engr. Sani Ndanusa, as a non-career Ambassador/High Commissioner-Designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following the unanimous endorsement of his public service record and qualifications.

The confirmation was granted during Tuesday’s plenary session after the consideration and adoption of a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger North).

Presenting the report, Senator Bello commended Ndanusa’s background, stating: “We have thoroughly screened the nominee, and we are satisfied with his qualifications, exposure, conduct, character, and experience. The nominee possesses a wide and in-depth knowledge of diplomacy.”

Corroborating the committee’s findings, Senate Chief Whip Senator Tahir Monguno (Borno North) described Ndanusa as “eminently qualified” and “a square peg in a square hole” after reviewing his credentials and contributions to national development.

Engr. Sani Ndanusa brings extensive technical, administrative, and diplomatic experience to his new foreign service role:

Professional Credentials: A certified engineer registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

Education: Holds a Master’s degree in Water and Waste Engineering from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

Public Service: Previously served as Minister of Youth Development and Sports (December 2008 – March 2010), and held executive cabinet portfolios as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, as well as Commissioner for Transportation in Niger State.

Following the formal approval by the Senate sitting as a Committee of the Whole, Senate President Godswill Akpabio extended his warm congratulations to the newly confirmed envoy.

“Let me use this opportunity to congratulate Engr. Ndanusa. I wish him well in his current assignment, and I hope that God will grant him more wisdom to build upon his distinguished service in previous engagements,” Senator Akpabio stated.
