Senate Moves to Strengthen Senior Secondary Education Nationwide

The Senate has initiated legislative measures to revamp and strengthen public senior secondary education across the nation through enhanced collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, and relevant educational authorities.

The initiative aims to establish better coordination in resource allocation and ensure targeted interventions to tackle persistent infrastructure deficits and inadequate learning facilities in public secondary schools.

Leading the debate on a bill to amend the National Senior Secondary Education Act, Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele emphasized that the proposed legislation addresses critical structural gaps in infrastructure and learning resources currently hindering educational development.

The proposed amendments are expected to streamline administration, foster inter-governmental synergy, and elevate teaching and learning standards in public senior secondary institutions nationwide.

In a related resolution, the Senate called on the Federal Government to take immediate action regarding the devastating erosion crisis in the Obogoro community of Bayelsa State, which has displaced over 300 residents and destroyed property. Lawmakers underscored the necessity of prompt federal intervention to safeguard life, property, and local livelihoods.
