Akpabio Commends NILDS Impact on Nigerian Democracy

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has lauded the continuous growth and impact of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), describing it as a powerful affirmation of the original vision behind its establishment and a cornerstone in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic governance.

Speaking on the institution’s recent milestones, Akpabio highlighted the expansion of its academic programmes, its intensive capacity-building initiatives tailored for legislators and National Assembly staff, and its expanding partnerships with various universities. According to the Senate President, these developments serve as clear indicators that the institute is effectively fulfilling its core mandate.

Akpabio extended high commendations to the Director-General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Suleiman, along with his management team, praising their unwavering dedication and commitment to institutional excellence.

He emphasized that bodies like NILDS are vital to the nation’s political maturity, as they directly enhance legislative capacity, deepen democratic practices, and adequately prepare leaders to shoulder the heavy responsibilities of public service.

Reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to institutional growth, Akpabio asserted that as Nigeria moves forward in fortifying its democratic structures, strategic investment in knowledge, high-quality research, and continuous professional learning must remain a top national priority.
