The House of Representatives on Wednesday, took a bold step in advancing labour rights by approving a bill aimed at establishing employment standards and welfare protection for domestic workers.

This legislative milestone underscores the 10th Assembly’s commitment to ensuring dignity and fair treatment for workers in the informal sector. With debates highlighting the vulnerabilities of maids, nannies, and gardeners amongst others, lawmakers reaffirmed the need for policies that guarantee their rights, safety, and economic security.

The House also addressed critical national issues, including security and economic development, calling for urgent action to restore suppressed constituencies in Kogi and Delta states to ensure fair political representation. On economic reforms, the House recommitted the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan Bill for further legislative action, emphasizing the need to boost industrial growth.

Additionally, the House tasked security agencies with reinforcing local police stations and deploying personnel to curb rising violence in Plateau and Kebbi states. These interventions reflect the House’s proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria.
