The House of Representatives, through its Committee on Agricultural Production and Services, is set to hold a one-day Public Hearing on three bills currently undergoing legislative consideration.

The hearing, which is open to stakeholders and members of the public, is scheduled as follows:
Date: Monday, October 13, 2025

Venue: Meeting Room 447, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday, by Honourable Akin Rotimi Jr., spokesman of the House of Representatives.

Honourable Rotimi stated that the public hearing provides a platform for informed deliberation and constructive engagement on proposed reforms in the agricultural sector in line with the 10th Assembly’s commitment to economic diversification and food security under its Legislative Agenda (2023–2027).

The bills under consideration are:

  1. A Bill for an Act to amend the National Agricultural Development Fund (Establishment) Act;
  2. A Bill for an Act to establish the National Farm Settlements Agency to promote agricultural development, ensure food security, and foster economic growth through agro-allied industrial processing zones; and
  3. A Bill for an Act to establish the National Rice Production, Processing and Research Institute, Argungu, Kebbi State, and for related matters.

Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Production and Services, Hon. Bello A. Ka’oje, stated that the session would provide a balanced platform for engagement, noting that all submissions will guide the Committee’s recommendations to the House.

“This hearing demonstrates the House’s belief that agricultural reform must be shaped by the voices of farmers, researchers, and industry players whose experiences drive real impact. Our goal is to ensure that whatever proposals eventually advance to the next stage of the legislative process are those that truly serve the national interest,” Rep. Ka’oje said.

The House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to transparent lawmaking and to using the legislative process as a vehicle for inclusive development, job creation, and sustainable national growth.
