The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Hon. Bamidele Salam, has expressed strong displeasure over the “non-responsive attitude” of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi.
The two main grievances cited by the committee were failure to honour multiple invitations extended over the past few months and inability to provide critical documents and a lack of diligence in rendering accounts and preparing the country’s consolidated financial statements.
The committee has issued final invitations, directing the following officials to appear in person on Monday, July 13, 2026:
- The Accountant-General of the Federation
Official: Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi
Mandate: Must appear in person to provide the required financial documents and address the panel.
- Affected Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs)
Six other government bodies have also been issued final warnings to have their accounting officers or permanent secretaries appear:
Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)
Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan
Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN)
Federal Ministry of Education
Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology
Federal Ministry of Police Affairs
Hon. Bamidele Salam, Committee Chairman issued a warning stating that “No public officer or institution is above accountability to the Nigerian people through their elected representatives.”
The committee emphasized that the AGF’s office holds a strategic position in Nigeria’s public financial management framework and must set a better example for other agencies. Chairman Salam warned that if these final invitations are ignored, the panel will invoke all constitutional and legislative powers available to compel compliance, reinforce accountability, and protect public resources.
