The National Assembly Joint Committees on Interior have formally commended the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his sweeping reformative efforts that have significantly enhanced the Ministry’s operational efficiency and bolstered Nigeria’s international image.
The commendation was delivered on Tuesday during a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Interior, where Dr. Tunji Ojo appeared alongside his team for the 2026 budget defense session.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, speaking on behalf of the joint session, highlighted the tangible improvements across the Ministry’s various agencies. He specifically noted the visible transformation within the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
“Each time I pass through our airports now, I feel honored and elated that our immigration service is wearing a new face,” Senator Oshiomhole remarked. “The reforms currently being undertaken by the Minister are yielding appreciable results in placing the country’s image high, both locally and internationally.”
The Joint Committee also recognized progress in other critical sectors under the Ministry’s purview:
- Civil Defence (NSCDC): The committee noted the President’s directive for the Corps to provide VIP security as a sign of “renewed recognition” and trust in the service’s ability to protect lives and property.
- Federal Fire Service: Following a Senate resolution regarding recent fire incidents in Kano, the committee acknowledged the vital role of the Fire Service in disaster management and its ongoing modernization efforts.
- Correctional Service: The committee expressed confidence in the new leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service, noting their commitment to aligning with the Minister’s reform agenda.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining these reforms, ensuring that the mandates of the “Renewed Hope” agenda are fully realized for the benefit of all Nigerians.
While praising the Minister’s trajectory, Senator Oshiomhole urged the Civil Defence, Correctional, Immigration, and Fire Service Board (CDCFIB) to expedite the ongoing recruitment process. He emphasized the importance of releasing the results for successful applicants as a matter of “urgent national importance” to ensure the services are fully staffed to meet security challenges.
