Highlights Parliamentary Memory, Information Access and Legislative Capacity
Abuja, Nigeria | Monday, September 21, 2026 – The National Assembly Library has announced the 2026 National Assembly Library Week, scheduled to take place from Monday, September 28, to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the National Assembly Library, Abuja.
With the theme “Parliamentary Memory: Connecting Records, Legislation and the People,” the three-day programme aims to promote awareness and use of parliamentary information resources, enhance access to legislative records, and advance the National Assembly Library’s role in supporting effective legislation, oversight, and representation.
The opening ceremony of the Library Week, will also commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI); a day adopted by the United Nations, to emphasize the right to seek, receive, and impart information as a core pillar of democracy, and sustainable development.
According to the programme framework approved by the Executive Secretary, Hon. Henry Nwawuba, the initiative will introduce legislators, legislative aides, parliamentary staff, and other stakeholders within the National Assembly to the extensive legislative resources available at the National Assembly Library, while
promoting information literacy, and responsible access to legislative information.
The 2026 National Assembly Library Week will include a series of activities intended to foster knowledge sharing, professional development, and institutional collaboration. This includes symposium on Parliamentary Memory, Stakeholders Interactive Forum on the library’s role in supporting parliamentary administration and legislative effectiveness, as well as capacity development sessions for selected participants.
This maiden program forms part of the National Assembly Library’s commitment to improving the availability and utilization of parliamentary information resources. It also aims to generate actionable recommendations to strengthen information integrity and access within the National Assembly.
The National Assembly Library invites stakeholders and members of the National Assembly community to participate in the programme and contribute to discussions focused on strengthening the role of parliamentary information and records in Nigeria’s democratic development.
