…to drive digital innovation and parliamentary knowledge governance.
The National Assembly Library has joined the high-level Nigerian delegation to the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly taking place in Arusha, Tanzania, from October 5 to 9, 2026. Representatives of the Library include Macfred Ekeh, Deborah Joseph and Joyce Umoren.
The Nigerian delegation, led by the President of the Senate, His Excellency Dr. Godswill Akpabio, CON, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, represents the nation at this prestigious global parliamentary gathering. Operating under the overarching theme, “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust, and opportunities for all,” the delegation is advancing critical legislative, diplomatic, and institutional priorities on the global stage.
The inclusion of the National Assembly Library in this international delegation underscores the growing recognition of research, digital archiving, and institutional memory as bedrock components of modern legislative governance and parliamentary diplomacy.
During the 153rd IPU Assembly, the National Assembly Library is focusing on three key strategic pillars:
- Building on ongoing institutional transformation, the Library is establishing direct collaborative links with international parliamentary libraries, global research repositories, and digital archiving institutions. These partnerships aim to accelerate the modernization of Nigeria’s legislative reference systems and enhance real-time research support for lawmakers.
- Participating in key sessions, including the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and specialized legislative committees, the Library is aligning its research output with global benchmarks for inclusivity. This includes supporting legislative frameworks for women’s political representation—such as Nigeria’s Reserved Seats for Women initiative—as well as policy frameworks supporting youth engagement and persons with disabilities.
- Following engagements at previous parliamentary assemblies, the Library continues to strengthen its administrative and analytical role within Nigeria’s parliamentary diplomacy infrastructure, ensuring that policy recommendations, international treaties, and multilateral resolutions are systematically archived and translated into actionable legislative research.
