Senate Adopts Electronic Voting Machines

The 10th Senate now features Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on every lawmakers desk, aligning Nigeria’s Senate with Global Parliamentary Standards.

According to Order 72 of the Senate Rule Book, it provides that “the mode of voting in the Senate shall be; (a) by voice vote, (b) by signing of register in a division, or (c) through electronic voting device installed in the Senate”.

The installation of these electronic voting devices, will henceforth;

  • Speed up the counting of votes
  • Reduce the anxiety of manual mode of voting
  • Provide improved accessibility for members of the Upper Chamber
  • Make voting convenient, flexible, transparent and accountable. It will fundamentally simplify the voting process
