Bill Sponsor: Sen. Alli, Sharafadeen Abiodun. Bill Progress: PRESENTATION AND CONSIDERATION OF REPORTS
The Nigerian Senate is set to address the Agricultural Research Council Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 864), as it prepares to formally receive and consider the report from the Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions.
Spearheaded by Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the bill has successfully passed its second reading. Following this, it was referred to the Senate’s Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, where it underwent a thorough review process that included public hearings and expert consultations.
Having completed its review, the committee has now presented its findings and recommendations to the full Senate. The request for the Senate to “receive and consider” the report is a procedural step that leads to important deliberations on the committee’s recommendations and any proposed amendments.
This amendment bill aims to update and enhance the existing Agricultural Research Council Act to better equip the council in promoting agricultural research, innovation, and development across Nigeria. Once the Senate concludes its consideration of the report, it will move towards a third reading, an essential step before the bill can be finalized and passed into law.
