The Senate officially mourned the passing of former Senator Anthony Adeniyi, SAN, on July 22, 2026, honoring him as a patriotic statesman, accomplished legal icon, and a humble lawmaker whose career left an indelible mark on national development and the legal profession.
Senator Adeniyi, who represented Ekiti South Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 75.
Leading the motion during Wednesday’s plenary session, Senator Yemi Adaramadu (Ekiti South) highlighted Adeniyi’s lifelong dedication to justice, democracy, and good governance.
Throughout his lifetime, Sen. Adeniyi was celebrated for humility, patriotism, and an unwavering commitment to justice, democracy, and Nigeria’s enduring national development,noting that the late lawmaker’s extraordinary service continues to be celebrated across political and legal circles.

Contributing to the tributes, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) reflected on Adeniyi’s warm personality, sharp wit, and professional excellence. Abaribe recalled Adeniyi’s historic achievement of attaining the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) while actively serving in the Senate, a feat previously thought improbable, describing it as a lasting inspiration to his peers.
Extending his condolences, Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally directed that the sympathies of the 10th Assembly be conveyed to the deceased’s family, the legal community, and the people of Ekiti South.
As part of the solemn proceedings, the Senate observed a one minute silence in honor of the late lawmaker. The Assembly further resolved to dispatch an official delegation, led by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, to Ekiti State to deliver formal condolences to the Adeniyi family.
