On July 9, 2026, the senate during thursday’s plenary session, four reports from relevant Senate committees were presented, considered, and adopted.
They include the following:
- Reports of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on the Legal Practitioners Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2026 and the Proceeds of Crime Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
- Report of the Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, Information and National Orientation and Media and Public Affairs on the Chartered Out – of – Home Media Practitioners of Nigeria (Establishment) BIII,
- Report of the Committee on Police Affairs on the 2025 and 2026 Budget Proposal of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
- Report of the Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Lafarge Cement Plc. to Chinese Investors
Furthermore, the senate also received correspondence from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, requesting legislative action and passage of two bills by the National Assembly. The transmitted bills are:
- The National Senior Secondary Education Commission Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
- The Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2026.

The senate in a major legislative milestone, has officially passed two critical pieces of legislation aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s judiciary and bolstering its anti-corruption architecture: the Legal Practitioners Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2026 and the Proceeds of Crime Recovery and Management (Amendment) Bill 2026.

Senate Passes Bill to Standardize Out-of-Home Media and Advertising Practice
In a major move to institutionalize professionalism within Nigeria’s media and advertising landscape, the Senate has passed the Chartered Out-of-Home Media Practitioners of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2026. The legislation officially establishes a centralized regulatory framework and a chartered body to oversee professionals in the out-of-home media industry.
Senate Approves ₦403.1 Billion Police Trust Fund Budgets to Strengthen National Security and Operational Capacity
In a significant effort to strengthen national security and enhance policing infrastructure, the Senate has approved a total allocation of ₦403.1 billion to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years.
The consolidated approval earmarks ₦170.10 billion for the 2025 budget and ₦233.96 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. The passage followed the presentation of a comprehensive report by the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, delivered by the committee’s Vice Chairman, Senator Yunus Akintunde (APC, Oyo Central), on behalf of Chairman Senator Abdulhamid Mallam Madori (APC, Jigawa East).
