The Nigerian Senate is poised to consider a key report from the Committee on Science and Technology regarding the Raw Materials Research and Development Council Act, 2022 (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 606). This marks a significant step in the legislative process for the bill, which aims to enhance the effectiveness of the existing Raw Materials Research and Development Council Act.

Having successfully passed its second reading, the bill has undergone thorough examination by the relevant committee. The committee has now completed its review and is presenting its findings and recommendations to the full Senate. This presentation is a crucial prerequisite for advancing the bill to its third reading, where final approval by the Senate will take place.

The Senate’s upcoming debate will focus on the committee’s recommendations and any proposed amendments. Following this deliberation, if the bill passes its third reading, it will be forwarded to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

This amendment bill is expected to strengthen the council’s operations, facilitating improved research and development of raw materials in Nigeria, and fostering growth in related sectors.
