On July 23, 2026, The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has officially extended an apology to Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North), formally putting an end to weeks of public exchanges between both lawmakers and reaffirming a mutual agreement of non-hostility.
The reconciliation occurred during Thursday’s Senate plenary session following a point of order raised by Senator Oshiomhole regarding a prior agreement to cease personal and lighthearted references to each other’s past controversies.
Addressing the chamber, Senate President Akpabio formally withdrew his previous description of one of Oshiomhole’s remarks as “unsenatorial” and expressed regret for any offense caused.
“Let me, first of all, apologise to distinguished Senator Oshiomhole if whatever I said could have in any way injured him or inferred to offend him,” Akpabio stated during plenary. “We have a truce. No more hostilities. Agreement is agreement. I will never refer to your comments as unsenatorial again… The truce between us remains upheld.”
Akpabio emphasized his long-standing personal and professional relationship with the Edo North senator, citing their shared history as former members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and reaffirming his high regard for Oshiomhole.
The resolution marks the conclusion of a series of disagreements that stemmed from comments made during a Senate Committee on Public Accounts sitting regarding invitations extended to former NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.
