President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially forwarded the 2026 Statutory Budget Proposal for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Senate for legislative consideration and approval.
In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu highlighted that the budget proposal prepared by the Ministry of Regional Development, aligns the Commission’s target intervention programs directly with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the broader 2024–2026 Economic Recovery Plan.
Designed to foster sustainable development across the Niger Delta, the 2026 budget proposal prioritizes key growth drivers, including:
Youth Empowerment & Job Creation: Expanding enterprise opportunities, industrial development, and skills training for young people to build local productive capacity.
Economic Livelihoods & Poverty Reduction: Targeting socio-economic programs aimed at lifting citizens across the Niger Delta out of poverty.
Core Infrastructure & Social Services: Directing strategic investments into healthcare, education, energy and power supply, regional security, and agricultural productivity.
“The budget proposal has been prepared based on the NDDC’s revenue and expenditure focus and aligns with the fiscal and development policies of the Federal Government and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” President Tinubu noted in his communication to the upper legislative chamber.
President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the financial proposal expeditious consideration to ensure seamless implementation of regional projects. The budget proposal has been referred to the relevant Senate committees for detailed legislative review and reporting prior to passage.
