House of Reps Advances Bill Advocating for Displaced FCT Natives

Thursday November 13, 2025 | A bill seeking to establish the FCT Displaced Original Inhabitants Resettlement and Integration Agency has scaled second reading in the House of Representatives.

Sponsored by Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, the agency would provide for the effective management and administration of compensation and resettlement for people affected by development projects within the FCT.

The Bill seeks to address the growing challenges faced by displaced original inhabitants within Nigeria’s capital as a result of multidimensional structural development which is in line with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The bill proposes a systematic approach of resettling displaced original inhabitants into new communities with better support services through provision of housing, healthcare, education, and other social and infrastructural needs.
facilitate adequate management of displaced original inhabitants to address recurring cases of social tensions, disputes, and promote peace and stability in the FCT.

It will also provide a platform for proper documentation of original inhabitants for a better policy-making and resource allocation to enhance their standard of living.
