The Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, had the honour of presiding over the Budget Defence Session of the 2026 fiscal year Proposal of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs alongside members of the committee, the clerk, the secretariat and members of the federal ministry.
During the Chairs welcome address, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara stated that “this is a defining moment to ensure that national allocations translate into real, measurable impact in the lives of Nigerian women and girls”.
Furthermore, she highlighted that the 2026 Budget Proposal is strategically aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and it reflects a comprehensive response to some of the most pressing issues of our time, issues of gender-based violence prevention, economic empowerment, social protection, maternal health, rural women development, and women’s political participation.
In reviewing the proposal, Hon. Kafilat suggested that we place strong emphasis on impact assessment, inclusivity for marginalized and vulnerable women, sustainability of some already established empowerment programmes, inter-agency collaboration, and robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Our mandate is clear, to ensure that every kobo appropriated strengthens dignity, expands opportunity, and delivers lasting change for women in Nigeria.
As we await the further consideration and approval of the National Assembly, she remains confident that through legislative backing, strategic partnerships, and the resilience of Nigerian women themselves, we will deliver measurable impact and renewed hope to millions across our nation.
