The Senate resumed plenary today after a recess that allowed lawmakers to participate in political parties’ primary elections and observe the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
During the plenary, five bills passed first reading and will undergo further legislative processes.
The Senate condems oyo school abduction, issues a stern call to politicians and the public to refrain from weaponizing the recent abduction of school children and teachers in Oyo State for political mileage, emphasizing that insecurity is a national threat requiring a unified front.
Speaking on tuesday during his welcome address as lawmakers resumed plenary, President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, described the targeted attack on educators and students as a direct assault on the nation’s collective humanity.
The Senate also confirmed the appointment of Barrister Benedict Umeano as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The confirmation was a sequel to the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions which screened the nominee.
Furthermore, during today’s plenary session, two bills for concurrence referred from the House of Representatives were considered and passed for third reading. The bills are:
