According to Hon. Ogbara, the retreat addressed pressing national priorities, noting that the efficiency of the country’s customs administration is now more vital than ever to national security, economic growth, revenue generation, and regional competitiveness. The study tour offered lawmakers a timely platform to dissect the specific reforms, digital technologies, and legislative frameworks necessary to modernize Nigeria’s trade infrastructure.
Throughout the productive four-day event, Hon. Ogbara and her colleagues engaged in high-level discussions centered on customs modernization, trade facilitation, robust anti-smuggling strategies, and institutional accountability. A primary focus was placed on digital transformation and the global innovations currently shaping modern border management.
Beyond the technicalities of customs operations, the retreat underscored the fundamental power of informed legislative oversight. Hon. Ogbara emphasized that such capacity-building initiatives are crucial for establishing transparent, efficient, and resilient public institutions.
Reflecting on the conclusion of the tour, the lawmaker expressed a renewed conviction that sustainable national development hinges on leadership that is willing to learn, adapt, and implement innovative solutions to complex national challenges. The insights garnered from the retreat are expected to directly enrich the committee’s legislative efforts to enhance governance, stimulate economic prosperity, and safeguard Nigeria’s national interests.
